The Story Behind Our Shift to “Available Works
Why We’re Moving Toward “Available Works” and What That Means for You
When I first started Mod North & Co., almost every piece I created was made-to-order. It was a natural way to begin—creating one strand at a time, responding to what people were drawn to in the moment. And for years, that process served me and my customers well.
But over time, something started to shift.
I began noticing patterns—certain color palettes that were always in demand, design layouts that consistently sold quickly, and a rhythm to what people loved. As I tracked orders across seasons and years, I realized that the pieces that sold the fastest, that resonated the most, were the ones I designed freely—without any outside parameters. The ones where I was just creating—not waiting for a request or a list of specs.
This led me to a big decision: to move away from custom work and embrace a new creative model—Available Works.
What Are Available Works?
Available Works are fully completed, one-of-a-kind designs that are ready to ship. They’re handcrafted using the color palettes I’ve studied and refined over time, based on real customer interest and interior design trends. They’re made with intention, not made on demand.
Each piece is created from start to finish in my studio, photographed, and listed exactly as-is. That means:
-
No lead times.
-
No waiting for production.
-
No guessing what your final piece will look like.
What you see is exactly what you’ll receive.
Why the Change?
There’s a deeper story behind this shift—and it starts with the stones themselves.
Every agate I use is a semi-precious treasure sourced from Brazil. I work closely with my trusted suppliers, and because I can't travel there myself, they send me hours of video footage of their latest inventory. I spend days combing through those videos, slice by slice, hand-selecting the exact pieces I want to bring into the studio. It’s a painstaking process, but one I deeply value—it ensures that every stone used is chosen with purpose and care.
Once selected, it takes several months for those stones to arrive. I front the cost for every single slice long before a piece is sold. And when you consider how many variations I carry—blue, amber, teal, magenta, green, black, white—it adds up quickly. Thousands of stones, each with their own character and energy, waiting to be used.
Because of this investment—both financial and creative—it no longer makes sense to keep such a wide variety of stones on hand just in case a custom order comes through. Instead, I design intentionally based on what’s in the studio, allowing the materials to guide the process rather than holding them in reserve.
What This Means for You
In short: You get to shop the best of the best.
No delays. No unknowns. Just beautiful, intentional, handcrafted wall hangings and garlands—ready to ship, ready to love.
Each listing in the Available Works collection is unique and won’t be replicated. Once it’s sold, it’s gone. So if something speaks to you, trust that instinct—these are truly one-of-a-kind.
Still Hoping for Something Custom?
While custom orders are no longer part of our regular process, I understand that sometimes a special piece is needed—something inspired by a previous design or in a colorway that feels personal to you. In rare cases, I do take on limited made-to-order commissions, using slices I already have in the studio.
If that’s something you’re interested in, I’d love to hear what you’re envisioning. You can reach out directly through the Contact page, and if it’s a good fit, I’ll let you know what’s possible.
This next chapter for Mod North & Co. is about freedom—freedom to create from intuition, to work with what’s in my hands, and to share that joy with you in real time. Thank you for being part of the journey, and for supporting handmade art that’s rooted in nature, beauty, and soul.
With love from the studio,
Jessica Cortés
